On the day of September 11, 2001, the world stood still and watched as the New York Trade Center known as the Twin Towers came crumbling down in a plum of smoke as two planes collided into the building. News team’s broadcasted to millions of people across America witnessing people running to shelter, hiding in buildings, and laying in the streets as dust rolled like a storm.  

This happened sixteen years ago on this day, and the truth is… people may have forgotten.

But on this day, the first day of the 2017 Homecoming Spirit Week, Joey Suarez, an Oak Hills High School senior wore an American flag to school. Joey walked around campus greeting those saying “together we are strong” and “god bless America.”

Though Joey showed his American pride and school spirit, the remembrance of 9/11 is not as recognized among high school students as it should be.
